2-20 August 2024, Exhibition ‘Verwevenheid: Textile Diversity in Contemporary Art’

Verwevenheid : Textile Diversity in Contemporary Art”, 2 – 20 August 2024, is a unique showcase that delves into various textile art through Exhibitions, Seminars/Presentations, and workshops. It offers diverse themes (natural, mythological, social, etc.) and techniques (such as dyeing, printing, embroidery). The works on display demonstrate the latest innovations in using textiles as an artistic medium and pay homage to its long historical journey in human civilisation.
This exhibition was attended by 27 participants from Indonesia, Japan, Egypt, Pakistan, Curacao, UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The participants had various backgrounds, including academics and self-taught artists, as well as different professional backgrounds, such as lecturers, entrepreneurs, and environmental activists.
The exhibition is part of the academic programs from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at ITB. It is facilitated by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It aims to strengthen Indonesia’s cultural mission and diplomacy, primarily through “Wastra art” (patterned
cloth) and reinterpreting “Wastra” in a contemporary artistic context. The mission and diplomacy are inclusive, aiming to build networks with international participants to create a productive and constructive dialogue space. Therefore, the activities also aim to assess the impact of each
participant’s work on the development of contemporary textile art globally.
