For the exhibition ‘Once upon a time: Untold Tales of Batik Cerita’ I also made a new zine. I was walking around with this idea for a while, it even resulted in a postcard design that is now the cover of the zine ‘ Little Red Riding Hood’.
I wanted to share my research on, or journey with, batiks on which Little Red Riding Hood is depicted, but couldn’t find the right style to do it in. Koen gave me the idea to just make every page fitting with what the page needed, not thinking on how they match together. This resulted in a combination of fine lines drawings in black, collage and watercolour with oil pastels.
The zine is a 16 page storytelling on my first encounter with Little Red Riding Hood on a batik at the Danar Hadi Museum in Solo, me trying to unravel how this design ended up on batik and who wore this design.
The zine is a folded A3 full-colour print. Only 50 copies made, for sale at aNERDgallery in Singapore for 15 SGD and through me at sabine@sabinebolk.nl for 10 Euro. Only a few copies left.
